That tragic honor goes to Bath Consolidated School in the village of Bath, Michagan on May 18, 1927. The murderer worked as a janitor/handyman at the school and he rigged the school, home, and car with bombs. The first bomb went off when only the elementary students were in class, the second burned down his farm and killed his wife. He went to the scene of the school bombing to watch the rescue efforts. When the school superintendent arrived he called him to the car and then blew it up killing himself and several others. During the frantic rescue efforts in the school building, firemen found 500 lbs of dynimite rigged to go off and kill the rescuers. All total 38 childred ages 6 to 8 were killed, 2 teachers, the superintendent, the wife, a farmer, the postmaster and the murder, Andrew P. Kehoe, were dead and 50 others injured.
