I predicted a Giants victory by a whisker and what a squeaker it turned out to be.
With 35 seconds left in the Super Bowl and New England in the lead, 14-10, Eli Manning hit Plaxico Burress for a 13 yard touchdown pass, putting an end to the Patriots’ unbeaten season. Laurence Tynes extra point was good.
It was a bitter loss for the Patriots, who almost made history with what would have been a perfect season. This game will be analyzed to death and books will be written about the golden boy quarterback, Tom Brady, and his sterling crew, led by Randy Moss, who were shocked by the scrambling upstarts from the New York metropolitan area.
Amazingly, a few days ago, Plaxico Burress, who had the winning touchdown, made a brash prediction of a Giants win and even gave a score: 23-17. Pretty close. “It’s O.K. to want to win, think big and dream,” Burress said. “We’re going to take this thing back to New York City.”
There will be parties aplenty in New York in the coming days, although officially the Giants’ home stadium is located in the Meadowlands, in East Rutherford, New Jersey. I know a few Pinoy houses in the N.J. area where beer will flow freely tonight.
