That is more or less the starting salary of a new lawyer in the US, and the pay scale of experienced nurses and teachers in the US with higher certification. Filipino mercs (mercenaries) can live on just $30k a year and send the other $30k back home--that's about 1.4 million pesos a year in 'perang padala'! Wow. Makes me want to be a mercenary. Living on $30k a year is good enough--Filipinos are naturally thrifty when working abroad--and can buy you a car and rent an apartment or eventually buy a low end house. $60k a year is good pay even by American standards.
